Our Departure starts very early by picking up from your hotel and moving to Frontera Corozal to visit the Yaxchilan ZA. We will have time to make a breakfast buffet in Ruta and then continue with our tour. We will take a motor boat (1 hour tour) along the Usumacinta River, border with Guatemala to arrive at this impressive archaeological zone covered by the majestic Jungle.
Yaxchilán was an important city during the classic Mayan period and was the dominant power of the Usumacinta basin. He dominated other smaller cities like Bonampak , and was long allied to Piedras Negras, and for a time to Tikal; He was a rival of Palenque, with which Yaxchilán sustained a war in 654. Yat-Balam, founder of a long dynasty, ascended the throne on August 2, 320 when Yaxchilan was a minor city. The city-state grew into a regional capital and the dynasty lasted until the beginning of the ninth century. Yaxchilán had its peak during the long reign of King Escudo-Jaguar II, who died after 90 years in 742. (Average visiting time 2 hours).
At the end of the visit we will have time to eat and then continue to Bonampak, an Archaeological Zone located in the heart of the Lacandon Jungle, whose peak occurred during the government of Jaguar-Knotted Eye that ascended to the throne of Bonampak in 743 AD. C. The portrait of his last ruler Chaan Muan II, whose mandate began in 776 AD. C., was embodied in the steles, lintels and wall paintings that are still preserved. (Average Visit Time of 1.30 hrs). Our adventure begins early after breakfast. We will make a walk inside the jungle, appreciating the natural beauty of this Ecological reserve, we will observe the flora and fauna of the place, appreciating its natural state full of rivers, waterfalls and springs. Our first stop when entering the jungle, will be the Lost city of Lacanja, vestiges of this archaeological zone that can still be observed in the Lacandon Jungle. Then we will depart towards the Golondrinas Waterfalls, where we will have time to cool off and take a bath in all the splendor of the Jungle. Our arrival back to the camp or ecolodge is planned at lunchtime. (2.00 pm). We will have time to take our food, and then move back to the City of Palenque. Overnight in the Magic Town of Palenque.
