The Nevado Huaytapallana is located in Huancayo. It has a height of approx. 5,200 meters above sea level and the snow that covers its impressive peaks, are the food that nourishes the waters of the Mantaro River.
Its name means "Place where flowers are collected" and belongs to the mountains that make up the Central Cordillera of the Andes.
Its name is due to the activity carried out annually by the inhabitants of the valley, on the eve of the Tayta Shanti festival in July, and that is precisely the collection of flowers that grow at the foot of the snow to serve as ornament for their hats.
The snowy Huaytapallana is also important because of the mystical value it has for the inhabitants of Huancayo.
