Itinerary
Day 1
Mosque, Jewish Quarter and Synagogue Tour of Cordoba
- Tour Start Time: 11:45 am
- Narrow streets that adapted to the high temperatures of the city and buildings as important as: The Synagogue of Córdoba, one of the three purest that still remain in Spain. The Chapel of San Bartolomé, a masterpiece of Mudéjar Art. The local souk, a place known for its Cordovan filigree workshops. The sculpture of Averroes, Seneca The wall of Córdoba And The sculpture of Maimonides.
- Next, we will visit the mosque, starting with the Patio de los Naranjos to then go inside a temple that combines parts of the Abd al Rahman I mosque, along with its extensions and that reaches the 16th century Christian cathedral. A visit more than recommended, since the history of Córdoba, Al Ándalus and Christian Spain are written on its heavy ashlars and its reused materials from classical and Visigothic times, making it the last monument in the classical world.
- The Mosque constitutes a monumental complex declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by Unesco in 1984. Considered one of the most relevant elements of Andalusian architecture and is the most emblematic of Spanish-Muslim Omeya art. This mosque, which had the capacity to host up to 30,000 parishioners, was also the second largest mosque in the world, after the Mecca mosque.
