Day 1
Start of the tour
- Take a break from visiting the city and join us on this exciting adventure to one of the most mysterious and magical places in Catalonia with our expert guides.
- We travel in small groups, allowing you to enjoy a more personalized experience with our bilingual guide, who will give you an expert local insight into our most deeply rooted cultural traditions.
- We will pick you up at your accommodation and take a comfortable private transport up to the mountain of Montserrat. This magnificent 1,000 meter wonder is easily recognizable from afar by its "jagged" summit, from which it gets its name.
- And at 2,380 feet above sea level, the Benedictine monastery of Santa María de Montserrat enjoys an impressive location, surrounded by an unforgettable natural landscape.
- The monastery has served as a spiritual retreat center for almost a thousand years. First we will visit the basilica, where the Virgin Santa María de Montserrat, patron saint of Catalonia, is located. The Romanesque statue of "the Black Virgin" dates from the 12th century and today is surrounded by a gilded altar. According to legend, the Virgin appeared personally in the 9th century, giving rise to the hermitage of Santa María.
- Next, our group will go on a walking tour around the monastery. We will enjoy the incomparable views offered by this region, declared a Natural Park in 1987. We will also discover the Santa Cueva where it is said that the virgin appeared. Since then, the place has become a true pilgrimage and prayer center.
- Our mystical visit to Montserrat will conclude with a musical gift: we will hear the angelic voices of the Escolanía de Montserrat, one of the oldest children's choirs in Europe (subject to seasonal availability). With your local guide, return to Barcelona in a comfortable, modern van.
